Her career took off after moving to Detroit in the 1960s from her birthplace of Montgomery, Alabama,Dee Edwardsreleased her first song together with her three brothers as R&B vocal group The Paragons. “My Time Is Important To Me” was mainly a local hit, but it led to Edwards being signed as a solo act to new Detroit soul label D-Town. Which was actually named after her by founder Mike Hanks. “You Say You Love Me ” was her official debut single. Singer Dee Edwards remains best known in Northern soul circles for the cult classic "All the Way Home." Born Doris Jean Harrell in Montgomery, AL, in June 1945, she began singing in her church choir at age five. Hanks licensed the Paragons' lone single, "My Time Is Important to Me," to another Detroit indie, Duke Browner's Exit Records, and the record was a local hit in the spring of 1963.

After D-Town folded she went on a two-year hiatus until releasing “I’ll Shed No Tears” on a new label; Premium Stuff. Edwards was married to the arranger Floyd Jones, and they collaborated on some songs that Guido Marasco released on his GM and Bumpshop record labels in 1970, releasing "Say It Again With Feeling". After one RCA single in 1972, Jones followed up with the song for the De-To label, "I Can Deal With That", which was the last of Edwards' Detroit recording sessions.
